"Andrea was full of energy. That was the first thing I noticed about her. She went around the class and shook hands with every person and asked and impressively memorized everyone's name. It was obvious she was in her element while working with people. Andrea Buinicki came to talk to our class on March 27th about her experience and expertise on evaluating and working with nonprofits.
One thing that really stood out to me was her work with nonprofits to present their missions. She explained that many organizations present their output first and foremost, which is simply the number of people served. While this is important it does not tell people why it matters or why they should care. She works with companies to change the ways they present themselves to the world, including potential donors. She helps to define and bring to the front ground the non-profits outcomes. Outcomes are the positive changes made in the world. After the outcome is presented it can be backed up by the outputs but the outcome needs to be the focus of their story. As we continue to interview our non-profits and evaluate them I think our class has a better understanding of how we can weigh outcomes and outputs."
